The 49th Anniversary of the Glorious Green March: Renewing the Spirit of Patriotism at Pleiades Private School
Each year, on November 6th, Morocco proudly commemorates one of the most iconic and peaceful national movements in its modern history: the Green March — a legendary moment shaped by the visionary leadership of His Majesty the late King Hassan II, may he rest in peace.
The Green March stands as a timeless example of a nation’s unity, courage, and peaceful determination. In 1975, 350,000 Moroccan citizens responded to the King’s call and marched south, not with weapons, but with Qur’ans and flags in hand — a powerful symbol of peaceful resistance, national pride, and faith. It was a defining moment that reaffirmed Morocco’s sovereignty and strengthened the bond between the monarchy and the people.
At Pleiades Private School, this historic event is much more than a national holiday. It is a powerful educational opportunity to instill values of patriotism, unity, and historical awareness in our students. We believe that understanding one’s heritage is key to building strong, conscious future citizens.
To celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Green March, our school organized a rich and meaningful program that brought the story and spirit of this national milestone to life:
🎨 Art workshops where students created illustrations and crafts inspired by Moroccan heritage and the symbols of the Green March
🎭 Patriotic performances and songs, celebrating Morocco’s history and the strength of its people
📚 Interactive lessons and storytelling about the Green March, tailored to different age groups
🎉 Decorations and school-wide displays, with Moroccan flags, traditional dress, and historical imagery
These activities allowed students to not only learn the facts of this monumental event but to feel connected to it — to understand the values it represents, such as unity, peace, and pride in one’s homeland.
At Pleiades, our role goes beyond academics. We are committed to nurturing emotionally intelligent, responsible, and nationally conscious learners. Commemorating events like the Green March is one of the many ways we plant seeds of awareness and belonging in young hearts.
As we mark the 49th anniversary, the message of the Green March remains alive: that unity, determination, and love for one’s country can move mountains — and build a future rooted in dignity, peace, and strength.
Long live the Kingdom of Morocco. Long live our unity. Long live our homeland.
